Spirit Lake is truly a delight for bird watching. At the moment there are 3 Cormorants sitting on the floating dock on our small 3 acre lake, their black wings open to the spring sun.

 The
big Blue Heron and a white Egret are fishing just under the little wooden
bridge that takes you to the other side of the lake. Because it's
spring the Red Tailed Hawks are nesting in the giant oak tree, last year
we watched mom feed three little hawks till they were big enough to fly.
What an experience. |

Red-winged Blackbirds are nesting in the cattails, and the Acorn Woodpeckers as well as Flickers are everywhere. Last night we saw the Osprey dive successfully for dinner. |

Not uncommon here are also Night Heron & Green Heron, of course with the lake lots of ducks, especially Mallards and Merganser. Sitting on the back deck with a cool drink while watching the Hummingbirds and Finches just couldn't be more relaxing, and rejuvenating. |

| If you still need to be convinced, just know that Spirit Lake is less than a ten minute drive from Anderson Marsh where the annual Blue Heron Festival is held every April. I have seen wild pheasant in the summer and Bald Eagle in the winter & spring. An extensive variety of ducks and the magnificent white Pelican. And all of this only a couple of hours from the San Francisco Bay area, up through the beautiful wine country. |
